Mónica Heller (b. 1975, Buenos Aires) is an artist known for her work in 2D and 3D animation, created using amateur techniques and CGI sourced from open-access libraries. Her self-taught approach to digital technology, combined with a craft‑based dedication, defines her DIY work ethic, distinguishing her within the Argentine art scene. In both her animations and paintings, Heller invites the viewer to let go of rational logic and immerse themselves in surrealist and absurd scenarios, where acerbic humor coexists with nonsense and the unsettling.

A graduate of the Universidad Nacional de las Artes, she participated in the inaugural edition of the Artist Program at the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella. Her career has been recognized with numerous awards and grants from institutions such as the MMSN Foundation, the Fortabat Foundation, and the Fondo Nacional de las Artes, among others.

She is also recognized for her collaborative projects, including co‑directing the animated series Ciudad Elemental alongside Marcelo Galindo, and her participation in the experimental drawing collective Geometría Pueblo Nuevo.

Her work has been exhibited throughout Argentina and in cities such as Barcelona, Santiago de Chile, London, Beijing, Basel, Los Angeles, New York, Zurich, and Paris, among others. In 2022, she represented Argentina at the Venice Biennale, presenting a solo exhibition in the Argentine Pavilion at the Arsenale.

In 2024, she participated in the FAAP art residency in São Paulo. In July 2025, she will take part in the Villa Waldberta residency in Munich.

Su enfoque autodidacta hacia la tecnología digital, combinado con una dedicación artesanal, define su ética de trabajo DIY, lo que la distingue
dentro de la escena artística argentina. Tanto en sus animaciones como en sus pinturas, Heller invita al espectador a desprenderse de la lógica racional y sumergirse en escenarios surrealistas y absurdos, donde el humor ácido convive con el sinsentido y lo inquietante.

Graduada de la Universidad Nacional de las Artes, participó en la edición inaugural del Programa de Artistas de la Universidad Torcuato Di Tella. Su trayectoria ha sido reconocida con numerosos premios y becas de instituciones como la Fundación MMSN, la Fundación Fortabat y el Fondo Nacional de las Artes, entre otras.
También es reconocida por sus proyectos colaborativos, como la codirección de la serie animada Ciudad Elemental junto a Marcelo Galindo, y su participación en el colectivo experimental de dibujo Geometría Pueblo Nuevo.
Su obra ha sido exhibida en toda la Argentina y en ciudades como Barcelona, San-tiago de Chile, Londres, Beijing, Basilea, Los Ángeles, Nueva York, Zúrich y París, entre otras. En 2022, representó a Argentina en la Bienal de Venecia, presentando una exposición individual en el Pabellón Argentino del Arsenale.

En 2024, participó de la residencia artística FAAP en San Pablo. En julio de 2025 participará de la residencia Villa Waldberta, Munich.
